I Never Said That

How often do we put words into Jesus' mouth? Tradition, culture, and well-meaning hearts can attribute ideas or "proverbs" to Jesus when they don't actually appear anywhere in the Bible. "Cleanliness is next to Godliness", "To thine own self be true", "God forgives those who forgive themselves" are actually not things Jesus said!
