Unoffendable Series Discussion Questions

 

September 10, 2023 - BE ANGRY…but don’t be

  1. What would you list as the top 10 taboo things to talk about in today's culture? How prevalent is a culture of offense in our State?

  2. Where do we get the idea of "righteous anger"? Does the Bible actually command us to be angry?

  3. Do you think you can sustain and survive righteous anger? How much is there to be angry at... Can you be angry all the time... and when should righteous anger turn on your "unrighteousness"?

  4. What do Paul and David actually call us to do with our anger? And replace it with what?

  5. How do we see Jesus direct his anger and manage His anger that is constant with this?

  6. We find that we are actually commanded to be... unoffended. To let go of our anger and replace it with the Gospel. Why is it hard to let anger go? Wouldn't it feel great to not be angry all the time?

September 17, 2023 - To Live or Stand

  1. Have you heard of a controlled burn? Taking the fuel away from future fires is an incredibly effective tool in proactive firefighting. Keep this in mind as you talk through each step of living as an "unoffendable" light in our world.

  2. What impact did Shadrack, Meshach, and Abednego's attitude have on their culture and circumstance? Even though they had the right to be offended they chose to live differently which opened doors to influence.

  3. Jesus used the illustration of being "salt" in this world to help us understand how we are to preserve life. What does it mean to preserve life and to seek the welfare of the land in which we live? How does this remove the "fuel" of anger in our culture?

  4. Paul describes the Philippians as well placed lights in a dark world. What would have happened to Philippi if the Christians left town? What would have happened if they were filled with angry attitudes as they lived in Philippi? What did happen to Philippi and other areas where believers choose to stay and live like Jesus?

  5. If you are a well placed light you will be in contrast to the dark world. If we are to have an influence in our exile then we have to follow the "unoffendable" lifestyle demonstrated through all of Scripture.

  6. Pray over each other to be a people of peace.

  7. Pray that God will give you the words, understanding, and lifestyle that brings LIFE to your world and revels God's plan for life in each situation.

  8. Pray that God will use you as a well placed light exactly where you are.

September 24, 2023 - Getting Over It

  1. What is one passage that resonated with you today from the sermon?

  2. Read Colossians 3:12-17 together, what stands out to you?

  3. How does remembering how God has forgiven you change your ability to forgive others?

  4. Is there someone that you have offended and you know you need to own it and ask for forgiveness from? If so, what can you do to start that process?

  5. Is there an offense in your life that you are still holding on to or is there someone you need to work towards forgiveness with?

  6. What do you think of the encouragement that once you have forgiven you should commit to these three things:

  7. “I will not remind MYSELF of this” (a daily meditation)

  8. “I will not remind YOU (the offender) of this, in order to use it against you.” (vengeance)

  9. “I will not remind OTHERS of this.” (gossip)

  10. Is there something you are working through and have forgiven but are still struggling with it, if so, and you feel comfortable sharing with your group please do?

  11. Take some time to pray with and for one another.
