Promised Series Discussion Questions
January 5, 2025 - Follow Me in Purpose
Why do you think so many Americans are walking away from religious institutions and faith?
What is our definition of a Disciple of Jesus? Why does "purpose" bring a daily relevance to our faith and need for church?
Love God LIKE JESUS. In John 2, Jesus challenges the world’s understanding of loving God. How did Jesus clear the people’s understanding of "Temple-ing" and show us how to truly "Temple" with God. How is this seen in Jesus’ love for the Word, Prayer, Obedience, and following the Holy Spirit?
Love People LIKE JESUS. In John 13, Jesus demonstrates serving the undeserving, transforming the lives of all, so that all could begin glorifying God. How is this different from the way our world calls us to love, and the way many religious institutions demonstrate love?
Live Generously LIKE JESUS. In John 10, Jesus shows that His life eclipsed obedience with generosity. How did Jesus live generously, and to what extent did this generosity take Him? How did the disciples and the early church live generously like Jesus?
We believe this is what should define our church, and our lives inside and outside of the church. Our purpose is to Love God like Jesus, Love People like Jesus, and Live Generously like Jesus. What fresh steps does this challenge you to take this year?
January 12, 2025 - To Walk Like Jesus
Compare John the Disciple in Mark 3 with the John of 1 John 2:6. How many years had John been following Jesus and how much of his life had been changed by Jesus? Who in your life has been a model of this kind of change?
John had a time in life to be curious about Jesus. What opportunities did John have to get to know Jesus in John 1:35-41 and the times leading up to this encounter?
Why is it important to have opportunities to question and be curious about Jesus?
Jesus challenged the disciples to follow Him. This wasn't just a phrase but an invitation to literally follow Jesus for over 300 miles over the next 18 months. What did John learn as an observer in following Jesus? What did/does this look like for you?
Jesus next challenged them to put action to following Jesus. How did Jesus' ministry change at Matthew 4? How did this challenge the disciples to practically participate and apply their love for Jesus into their everyday life? What did/does this look like for you as you deepen you love for Jesus as an apprentice?
So much growth happens when you have to become the teacher leading others in life and life skills. How is this seen in Jesus' challenge for the disciples to "Go and make disciples"?
As you think about the Disciples lives in the book of Acts what seems to prove that they are becoming more mature in their faith? What does this look like for you as you follow Jesus?
At Cascade Community Church we want to be intentional in our relationships. We want to have a clear path for people to walk and grow to maturity in Following Jesus and Walking Like Jesus. In what ways do our ministries, groups, and relationships help people grow in their spiritual walk?
January 19, 2025 - Gospel Driven Here, Near & Far
What is the difference between coming to a church service and participating in the Gospel?
How is this seen as a value through what we promote with our Missional Merch?
In Acts 1:8 Jesus tells His disciples (and us as his current disciples) that we are the ones called to be His witnesses. What is a witness? And where did Jesus tell them to witness?
1 John 1:3 describes what we hope this looks like HERE at Cascade in our "fellowship". What does it mean to connect in community and grow as a witness of the Gospel here in Church? Why is it important for us to connect in community (to be known, cared for, and encouraged to grow in faith) and learn to share with each other in that growth process?
In the Great Commission Jesus calls us to GO. Literally translated "as you are walking". Jesus calls us to begin the disciple making process by going to the near places and tell people about the gospel. What opportunities do we have as a church to practice this through community care and church planting?
Who is on your "near" list? What relationships within family, friends, work, and Monroe community is Jesus asking you to be a witness in?
Jesus' goal from the very beginning has been to reach all people groups with His good news. How is this seen in scripture? Who are the unreached people in your life and in our world?
How is this "greatest need" the most under resourced in our culture? How do we hope to be a part of changing that within our context? How is God moving you to to grow in following Him far?
Take some time to pray and talk together about the practice ways you can step into finding your purpose this year Here, Near, and far. What steps is He asking you to take in each area as a witness?
